Hope and Change for Ontario

As part of the ongoing lobbying efforts of the Drop Fees campaign, the Federation released a proposal for a post-secondary education stimulus package calling on the Government of Ontario to stimulate the economy by investing $3.1 billion in post-secondary education. The recommendations were endorsed by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA), the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Together, these organisations represent all faculty and academic librarians at Ontario’s public colleges and universities. The package called on the government to take a visionary approach to post-secondary education and pointed to the Obama Administration’s announcement of a multi-billion dollar investment in student aid and post-secondary education in the United States.

One week prior to the release of the Ontario 2009 budget, on March 19, the Federation hosted a media conference with Mark Rosenfeld, Associate Executive Director of OCUFA and Paddy Mussin, Chair of the Academic Division of OPSEU and Associate Professor of Sociology at Fanshawe College.
